Overview

Location & Accommodation

A comfortable hotel in a beautiful location that truly welcomes dogs. We stayed at Hotel Schauinsland for 4 nights in mid October and absolutely loved it! We were looking for a central hotel for a hiking trip in the Black Forest and found this place in Bad Peterstal which looked very cozy. The rooms are very spacious, the view from the breakfast room is beautiful and though the furniture may look a little outdated, it more than adds to the character of the hotel and the owner's wish to preserve the history. The hotel is not only easily reachable by car, but there's a train station in town (about a 15 minute walk from the hotel). On top of that you will find a supermarket, a bakery and some restaurants in town as well.

Overall experience

We stayed at this hotel in October of 2026 and absolutely loved our stay here! The surrounding nature is beautiful, the owner is incredibly lovely and the room was very cozy. The hotel room was also very spacious, more like a suite with a seating area and my room even had a mini fridge. It was an easy location to do several hikes, some we drove a short distance for and others we could start straight from the hotel. We had breakfast included and there were lots of options every morning and even some handmade items. It was my husky Dunya's 9th birthday during the trip and when the owner noticed, he even put 9 candles in a cheesecake and sang her a birthday song. Very sweet! Dogs are also welcome to join at breakfast which was really nice.

Accommodation details

Indoor space

The hotel is divided over a couple of floors. There's a small reception area and a large breakfast room / lounge where you will always find coffee and tea. On top of that you will find some rooms on the ground floor. There's more rooms in the basement and on the other three floors. The ground floor is accessible, but other levels have to be reached by stairs. The room/suite was very spacious with a double bed, seating area, large desk, a balcony and a private bathroom with shower. In the hotel you will also find a sauna and a ping pong table.

Outdoor space

My room had a balcony which the dogs absolutely loved. It had some chairs to relax in and enjoy the view. On top of that, the hotel has some garden space in the back. But from the hotel you can easily walk in different directions to go for a nice stroll with dogs and several hikes start from around the hotel as well.

Dog friendly amenities

Facilities & area

The dogs really enjoyed their stay here and especially chilling on the balcony whilst listening to everything that was happening around them. The owner was super friendly towards the dogs and he even had some water bowls and food in the common area for the dogs. It's really a great spot for dogs with all the hikes nearby and the spacious hotel rooms.

Pet policy

To us, there's a difference between accepting dogs and welcoming dogs and this hotel truly welcomes them. We didn't pay a fee for the dogs and they were welcome everywhere in the hotel, so long they were well behaved. Dogs should however stay off furniture (beds and couches in the room).
