My favourite dog travel products

✔️ BioThane / PVC long leash
If you're traveling with a dog, especially one with unreliable recall, like my huskies, a BioThane or PVC long leash is an essential piece of gear. It gives your dog more freedom to explore while ensuring they stay safe in unfamiliar environments. I personally love using a long leash when camping, so I don’t have to constantly check if my dogs are staying close. Compared to traditional fabric leashes, BioThane and PVC leashes are waterproof, odor-resistant, and super easy to clean, perfect for muddy trails, rainy hikes, or beach trips. They also tend to tangle less in my experience.

✔️ Bathrobe towel
A dog bathrobe towel is an absolute game-changer! Instead of struggling to dry them off after a muddy hike, rainy walk, or swim at the campsite, I simply wrap them in this super-absorbent towel and let it do the work. It quickly soaks up water and dirt while keeping my car or home clean. The soft yet durable fabric makes it comfortable for the dogs to wear, and the easy-on, easy-off design means no hassle. Plus, since it’s machine washable and odor-resistant, it’s always fresh and ready for the next adventure.

✔️ Tractive GPS tracker
Having huskies with a mind of their own, I love the peace of mind that the Tractive GPS tracker gives me. Whether one of them decides to wander off on a hike or feels like escaping, I can instantly check their location in real-time through the app. The updates every 2-3 seconds mean I always know exactly where they are. The worldwide subscription is also great, I can use it no matter where I travel. Plus, it’s waterproof, has a 5-day battery life, and charges in just 2 hours.

✔️ Swim vest
If you’re heading out on the water with your dog, whether it's boating, kayaking, or stand-up paddleboarding, a dog swim vest is one of those pieces of gear that’s well worth packing. While my huskies are pretty good swimmers, I still put a swim vest on them anytime we’re out on the lake or sea. It’s not just about swimming ability, it’s about safety and peace of mind. Unexpected currents, fatigue, or a sudden slip off the board can happen quickly, and the vest gives them that extra bit of buoyancy and security. It also has a sturdy handle on the back, which makes it much easier to help your dog back into the boat or onto the board.

✔️ Portable drinking bottle
A portable drinking bottle with a built-in bowl is one of those small but incredibly useful items I always bring when traveling with my dogs. I use one of those bottles that has a dispenser and bowl in one, super convenient and mess-free. It doesn’t leak, fits easily into my backpack, and makes it quick to offer the dogs water without needing an extra bowl. Especially during hikes, road trips, or hot summer days, I like knowing I have clean water for them at all times.

✔️ Hands free waist leash
A hands-free waist leash has become one of my favourite pieces of gear when hiking with my dogs, especially in the mountains. With huskies that love to pull, it’s honestly a game changer on the uphill stretches. They get to do what they love, and I get a little help climbing. But even outside of mountain trails, whether I’m going for a run, walking through a city, or just exploring with both hands free, it makes a huge difference. When handling multiple dogs, this type of leash helps keep things more manageable and less chaotic.

✔️ Hands free 3 or 5 meter leash
A good hands-free leash honestly makes such a difference when walking or hiking with my dogs. I love that this one can be worn crossbody for hands-free walks, but also easily used as a regular leash when needed. It gives me flexibility depending on the situation, whether we’re on a trail, in the city, or training. What I really appreciate are the extra handles close to the end of the leash. They make it so easy to quickly keep your dog close when passing another dog or navigating busy areas. I have both the 5 meter and 3.5 meter leash and tend to use the 3.5 most when hiking. Whereas I use the 5 meter one in more open areas like the beach.

✔️ Boots
Dog boots have become a staple in my hiking gear, especially for mountain trips. In the Dolomites, they were a real game changer for my husky Dunya, as the loose, small rocks on many trails can be uncomfortable on her paws. With boots on, she could walk confidently and enjoy the hike without constantly adjusting her steps. I also use them to protect her paw if she has a small wound, and in winter they’re perfect against road salt, which can be quite harsh. I personally use the Walker Active boots from Trixie, but there are plenty of good options, the key is a secure fit so your dog can explore comfortably 🐾

✔️ Water bottle with water filter
A water bottle with a built-in filter is something I bring on almost every hike now. It gives me peace of mind knowing I always have access to clean and safe drinking water, whether we’re near a mountain stream, lake, or a tap abroad that I’m unsure about. The 3-in-1 filter removes 99.99% of bacteria, protozoa, chemicals, heavy metals, and even viruses, which makes it incredibly reliable on longer trips.
