Overview

Location & Accommodation

My family and I stayed three nights at this beautiful forest house over Christmas along with our huskies. The house is located at the end of the town Hausbach in Saarland, right next to the forest. The house is very spacious with three bedrooms and completely surrounded by nature, which we absolutely loved. It was very quiet and on a clear night you could see the stars so well! The dogs were very comfortable in the house and absolutely loved exploring the outdoors area. To be able to walk straight from your door into the forest was definitely a big plus. The town itself doesn't have much, no supermarket, but there is a bakery if you want to get fresh pastries in the morning. In Losheim am See you'll find several supermarkets, which is less than a 10 minute drive away. â€‹â€‹

Overall experience

We really loved our stay here! The surrounding nature is beautiful, the host is very responsive (there's an easy self check in) and the house is super modern & spacious. We absolutely loved the attention paid to the dogs, such as the drinking & feeding bowls that were placed in the kitchen. The house pretty much has everything you need for a comfortable stay (we did struggle with the WiFi from time to time though), especially if you're choosing to stay in and explore the surrounding nature. There's lots of hiking trails nearby, walking distance or a short drive. You can park your car right in front of the house. You do have to walk up a set of stairs to reach the living room/kitchen, it's a closed staircase, so our dogs didn't have a problem with it at all.

Accommodation details

Indoor space

The house is divided over 2 floors. Once you enter through the front door you'll have to go up the stairs to reach the living room, kitchen and bathroom. These are all very spacious and comfy. The bathroom we especially loved for how modern and spacious it was. There's also lots of seating in the living room, so much so that we each had our own two seater and our senior dogs even found a spot in the chairs. The kitchen also has everything you need, an electric stove, oven, microwave and dishwasher. Once you go up another set of stairs you'll find three big bedrooms with very comfortable beds. The only downside for me personally was that the windows didn't have any curtains (yet), which in winter isn't that bad, but I can imagine in summer it would be quite nice to have some.

Outdoor space

The house is surrounded by nature with a big open field in front of the house and a forest starting pretty much from the front door. The dogs had an amazing time exploring. We even did a bit of a photoshoot with the dogs in the morning sun. It's a really nice place if you love quiet walks with your dog and having direct access to multiple trails.

Dog friendly amenities

Facilities for your dog

We really appreciated and loved the details put in for the dogs, like the drinking bowls, the soft mats in the living room which they enjoyed laying on and the towels at the bottom of the stairs when you enter the hallway. We truly felt welcome with our dogs.

Pet policy

We didn't have to pay a fee to bring our dogs and there were not any specific rules for the dogs either. So long you keep the house clean and we made sure to bring poop bags as well to clean up anything close to the house.

Dog friendly tips in the area

There's a great hiking trails in the town next to Hausbach (6 min drive), the Steinhauer hike (roughly 10.5 km) which I would definitely recommend! On top of that a little over an hour drive you find the city of Metz in France which is beautiful to walk through and especially amazing to visit when the Christmas market is happening!
