Overview

Location & Accommodation

This beautiful house is located in Zelhem (de Achterhoek) right next to the forest. This house truly has everything you need for your stay, from a fenced in garden, a full kitchen, cozy living room with a record player to a stone oven to make your own pizzas. We absolutely loved our stay here. The accommodation is located on a park where you'll first have to walk a short distance to collect the key (self check in!) to open the gate and drive onto the property, the accommodation does have a private driveway. When we arrived we were welcomed with a bottle of wine and some marshmallows to roast in the stone oven. The house smells absolutely amazing and we were quick to settle in.

Overall experience

We stayed here for two nights in January and had a very peaceful stay. I think I can truly say that everything has been thought of in this house, from the amazing smell when you enter the house, to the amount of spices for cooking, to lovely coffee recipes (with syrups) down to the available items for the dogs (waterbowls + there was even a leash with poop bags). We really loved that the garden was fenced in (Dunya was a fan!). On top of that, the house has a very comfortable and warm interior with very nice beds. We spent both evenings in the home and it was so cozy. You will leave very rested!

Accommodation details

Indoor space

The house has two bedrooms, one master bedroom and one slightly smaller bedroom with two single beds, a living room with a kitchen, dining table and a comfortable bathroom (with a great shower!). The kitchen has everything you need, a large fridge and everything you need to cook meals (including spices and olive oil). One of the things we loved was spending a cozy evening on the couch, watching a movie and turning the pellet heater on. Even Hunter (my sister's husky) was super comfortable laying by the heater. The place was also super clean!

Outdoor space

Even in winter, we really enjoyed the outdoor space. The stone oven is outdoors on the porch and we were quite excited to make our own pizzas and roast some marshmallows after for dessert. It was a lot of fun lighting the fire and enjoying our own made pizzas. The garden is also very nice and Dunya loved running around in the grass. Although, if your dog is a jumper / escape artist I would keep a very good eye on them, the fence is not very high/secure. Furthermore, you'll find a shed in the garden where you'll also find two bikes that you can use during your stay. As for walking your dog, there's a short path on the park that leads to a beautiful and large forest. We took the dogs for a nice walk here and very much enjoyed the scenery.

Dog friendly amenities

Facilities & area

The cabin is a great place for a getaway with your dog in The Netherlands. With a spacious garden and very close to a large forest, it's a great spot for a stay anytime during the year. Plus we loved that dog bowls were provided, as well as poop bags, but we did bring our own dog beds. It's a very quiet area with lots of options to walk your dog.

Pet policy

It's a very dog friendly place, but please be mindful to not let your dog on any of the furniture (couch, beds etc). On top of that, it's recommended to walk your dog outside of the park to avoid dog waste, but in case it's unavoidable, please make sure to clean up after your dog!

Dog friendly tips in the area

There's so much to do in this area! We really enjoyed visiting Landgoed Slangenburg for a nice walk and a delicious lunch at Koetshuis Slangenburg. It's about a 15 minute drive away. Furthermore Landgoed Vorden is also really nice for a walk and a lunch at Bosloods 1873, around 20 minute walk from the house. If you'd like to stay around the house, there's lots of beautiful walks just outside of the park where the house is located.
